Article abstract: Introduction & Objective: Many procedures have been proposed for the treatment of pressure sores and a gluteus maximusmyocutaneous island flap are most commonly used in the treatment of ischial pressure sores. This study conducted to describe the use of muscle Gluteus maximus as a gluteus maximusmyocutaneous island flap in the closure of sacral decubitus ulcers.
Materials & Methods: This study was performed for six patients, in 2015. Average wound size was 7×7 cm, in sacral region. The patients were under general anesthesia and the defect was reconstructed by a gluteus maximusmyocutaneous island flap and the donor site be closed primarily and without complication.
Results: In the gluteus maximusmyocutaneous island flap is no limited mobility and the need for skin graft on the secondary defect. Also, the donor site can usually be closed primarily without any difficulty.
Conclusions: The gluteus maximusmyocutaneous island flap is a useful, safe and versatile flap for the repair of sacral decubitus ulcers.
